COLIN LESLIE WALK for CELIAC DISEASE 2011

Taking a Step Toward Awareness

July 2011

Dear Vendor,

We are writing to ask for your support and participation in an extraordinary event. On Sunday, October 16th we will be hosting the 6th annual Colin Leslie Walk and Vendor Fair for Celiac Disease in Rye, New York. Colin began this walk in 2006 after being diagnosed with celiac disease at age 14. He is now attending the University of Virginia, but his walk and efforts to raise money and awareness for Celiac Disease continues.

As you may know, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that destroys the small intestine. Approximately 1 in every 133 Americans has celiac disease but amazingly only 3 % of the 3 million that have it are diagnosed. If left untreated, this disease can result in numerous complications including other autoimmune disorders, osteoporosis and even cancer.

Cumulatively, over the past five years, there have been almost 3000 walkers, and over 50 vendors that have participated in this exciting event. We have raised over $280,000 which has been directed to the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. The Center works tirelessly to raise awareness and conduct continuous research studies with objectives to aid in overall understanding, diagnosing and improving overall health of those with the disease. With the substantial media attention celiac disease and gluten free foods continue to receive, we expect to reach many new participants and hope to raise $75,000 this year for the Center.

This is why we are inviting you to participate in this successful and growing event. Vendors are a key part of the celiac disease community as individuals with celiac are always looking for alternatives to their diet. This is a wonderful opportunity to have your gluten free item seen and sampled. Many of last year’s vendors will be returning and we hope we can add your name to the list of those attending.

How you can maximize your participation:

$75, the same cost as last year if paid by Sepember 1st, will reserve your space for the event and provide you with a 10-foot table and electricity if needed. The price after September 1, 2011 to become a vendor is $85.

We hope you will consider increasing your visibility as a vendor by becoming a sponsor of this event. All sponsorship opportunities are outlined on the attached matrix.

If you’d like additional space and visibility but not quite at sponsorship level, consider a higher level vendor status.

Thank you in advance for supporting this worthwhile cause to raise awareness for a disease which so few people know about. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Linda and Jeff Solomon
