COLIN LESLIE WALK for CELIAC DISEASE 2008

Taking a Step Toward Awareness

Dear Vendor,

I am writing to ask for your support and participation at an extraordinary event. On Sunday, September 14th I will be hosting the 3rd annual Colin Leslie Walk and Vendor Fair for Celiac Disease in Rye, New York. I began this walk when I was 14 years old and recently diagnosed with celiac disease. I wanted to raise funds in order to increase awareness of celiac disease so others receive the proper diagnosis.

As you may know, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that destroys the small intestine. Approximately 1 in every 133 Americans has celiac disease but amazingly only 3 % of the 3 million that have it are diagnosed. If left untreated, this disease can result in numerous complications including other autoimmune disorders, osteoporosis and even cancer.

Last year, over 1,000 walkers and 35 vendors participated. We raised $58,800 which was directed to the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University to assist their mission of raising much needed awareness of this disease and funding for research. Presentations were made by Dr. Peter Green and Nutritionist Anne Lee of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. With the substantial media attention celiac disease and gluten free foods have received recently, our goal this year is to have 1500 participants, 75 vendors and raise $75,000 towards research.

This is why I am inviting you to participate in this successful and growing event. Vendors are a key part of the celiac disease community as many individuals with celiac are always looking for alternatives to their diet both at home and away from home. Many of last year’s vendors will be returning and I hope I can add your name to the list of those attending.

Here is some key information:

• The price to attend this event is $75, which reserves your space for the event and provides you with a 10ft. table and electricity on the day. To sign up fill out the attached matrix and mail it to the address listed at the bottom.

• Additionally, I hope you will consider increasing your visibility as a vendor by becoming a sponsor of this event. All sponsorship opportunities are outlined on the attached Vendor Matrix.

• Advertising in this year’s program, which is distributed to all who attend, is another way to increase your visibility as a vendor. Prices for advertising are available upon request.

If you have any questions, please contact either
Martha Rubenstein at martha.rubenstein@colinlesliewalkforceliacdisease.org or

Thank you in advance for supporting this worthwhile cause to raise awareness for a disease, which so few people know about. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Colin M. Leslie
